Cheese -n- Basil Broccoli
August 1st, 2007
A Food tutorial… it tastes good.
This is my first attempt at making something like this, and it actually came out very good and tasty. i used my iPhone to listen to music (for audible timing and cooking cues), and to take lots of pictures for this tutorial.
I’ll definitely try again, and do a better job. and probably use marinara sauce or something.
Ingredients
- Broccoli (as many crowns as you want)
- fresh Basil (about 10 to 15 leaves)
- Mozerella cheese (i only had chedder at the time)
- garlic salt (optional)
What you’ll need
- steamer / pot & steaming rack
If you don’t have a steamer, use aluminum foil to make balls about the size of tennis balls. Make enough to cover the bottom of the pot you’re using and make sure the water level is well below the tops of the balls. You can use this as a bed for for the veggies. - toaster oven / frying pan & olive oil
- bay leaf (optional)
- plates
- water
start
- get your steamer ready by turning up the heat to bring your water to a slow boil

- i had bay leaves, so i threw it in, but i don’t know if it does anything. shrugs

- rinse your broccoli

- slice the broccoli vertically, from leaves to stem, in 3/4 inch slices be careful!

- i had 3, this is how 3 broccoli crowns sliced looks like

- by this time, your steamer should be ready, gently place the broccoli slices in… carefully, the leaves like to fall off
if you want, you can season your broccoli with garlic salt now

- wash your basil

- pick 10 to 15 leaves off

- chop the basil up like this

- I originally planned to put this fresh chopped basil on the cheese on the broccoli slices, then quickly toast it in a toaster oven, but i did not have a toaster oven at this time. I probably should not have fried it, but i did, and it was ok.

fry it for seconds…

…throw it in paper towel for now.

- about 5 minutes should have passed, and your broccoli should be ready… lay them out on a plate.

- very quickly, sprinkle your cheeses all over the broccoli while it’s still hot!

- it puts the basil on the cheese…

- enjoy.
